|Position Overview-||Long Island Lutheran is seeking a seasoned educational leader to become the next Head of School beginning August 1, 2018. The Head of School is the Chief Executive Officer of our Association of 21 Lutheran congregations. The Association operates a vibrant, faith-based independent school serving 500+ students from Grade 6 to Grade 12 on a beautiful 32-acre campus on Long Island, in suburban NY, with a recently created boarding component to serve international students. The Head of School oversees 103 employees, an active annual fundraising campaign, and an annual budget of over $12M. In addition, the Association operates a summer program serving over 3,000 K-HS students.
The successful candidate will be a visionary and strategic leader, preferably with significant experience in Middle School through Grade 12 education. Experience leading a school with a boarding component and recruiting international students is a plus. She/he must be able to articulate and communicate a vision for the school, encompassing academic innovation and commitment to the school’s mission; and will actively encourage the school community to achieve these goals. In addition, she/he will be able to demonstrate previous quantifiable success in developing, implementing and administering educational programs and fundraising initiatives, as well as managing financial, physical, and human resources. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to inspire, engage, and motivate students, teachers, and staff to pursue excellence both in and out of the classroom are a must. All applicants must have demonstrated strong knowledge of the Lutheran tradition in education. An advanced degree and ordained/called status in a Lutheran church body is preferred.
