Position Overview-Concordia Publishing House is seeking an Assistant to the Editor who will assist with carrying out production, editorial, and administrative tasks as assigned, with an eye toward maintaining standards. The position supports the team by fulfilling all regular and specially assigned duties. The essential functions of this position are as follows:
1.Prepare manuscripts as needed and assigned, which may include inputting editorial changes and finalizing copy for peer review books.
2.Maintain communications with authors, contributors, and endorsers for peer review books. Coordinate peer review process, including ensuring reviewers are provided manuscripts and deadlines.
3.Responsible for the manuscript preparation task, which may include styling manuscripts, compiling files, and submitting CIP (Cataloging in Publication) requests to the Library of Congress.
4.Convert manuscripts to InCopy/InDesign as needed, ensuring styles and formatting are correct.
5.Submit manuscripts to doctrinal review, completing associated paperwork.
6.Manage and contract authors, manuscript preparation, planning and development, work with design, and maintain schedules for assigned products.

The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge and experience:
•Bachelor’s degree in theology or English.
•Prior experience in editing and/or writing, preferably in a publishing environment.
•Strong knowledge of Scripture and LCMS doctrine, practice, and culture.
•Skilled in English grammar and usage.
•Proficient with word-processing software, especially Microsoft Word and Adobe InCopy/InDesign.
•Skilled in researching facts and data via reference books and the Internet.
•Must be highly organized and detail oriented.
•Must be skilled in communicating through the written word as well as able to write and edit for clarity.
