Position Overview-ROLE:

The Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences is responsible for leading its academic and co-curricular programs in achieving excellence in Lutheran, Christian higher education. The Dean leads the faculty to establish requirements for degrees and programs, to approve courses offered by the departments, and to administer the curriculum of the school. The Dean is responsible for securing fiscal resources to fulfill the school’s mission and for recruiting, developing, and retaining faculty and staff who support and advance the university’s mission.

• Reports to the Associate Provost.
• Faculty, Department Chairs, Assistant Deans, and the Administrative Assistant and the Directors of the Marine Lab, Heritage Garden, and ATW report to the Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences.
• Collaborates with all faculty and staff in the school and as needed across the university.

• Master’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience is required; earned doctoral degree preferred.
• Minimum of five (5) years teaching experience at the college level.
• Recent professional experience as a leader/administrator of an academic unit.
• Clear and compelling vision of excellence in Lutheran, Christian liberal arts education.
• Demonstrated skill in communication, collaboration, and academic administration.
• Support of Concordia University’s doctrinal statement and identity, mission, vision statements.

• Be committed to the aims and ideals of a liberal arts education
• Effectively communicate to university personnel, students and public and assist the university in implementing the aims and ideals of the core
