Position Overview-Duties and Responsibilities

Subject to review and adjustment in conjunction with the Church Council, Board of Elders, and Pastor, the major responsibilities of the Organist are:
1. Select and provide organ and/or piano music for all worship services* which involves choosing appropriate music reflecting the liturgical season and designated Scripture. *3 weekly services: Saturday evening, 2 on Sunday morning; additional services as dictated by the church calendar: Advent, Lent, etc. (approx. 10-20 hours per week)
2. Present options for music, hymns, special musical selections, etc., which support the sermon theme for that service in advance.
3. Direct and teach adult choir. Incorporate special music selections each week which may include the adult choir and other special groups.
4. Support priorities and vision for worship as agreed upon by the Worship & Music Committee and Pastor.
5. Recommend to Pastor ways music can be used to share the Gospel with the community.

Skills and Qualifications
1. Knowledge of the instrument and keyboard ability sufficient to play hymns, liturgy and easy anthem accompaniments at sight.
2. Knowledge of the Lutheran worship tradition and liturgies. Faithfulness to Scripture and our Lutheran Confessions. Personal discipleship.
3. Self-starter, entrepreneurial mindset, can take an idea from conception to actualization.
4. Ability to leverage technology in creative ways.
