If you answered yes to these questions your dream job is around the corner. WalCamp Outdoor Ministry in Kingston, IL is looking to add a part-time Development Specialist to our dynamic team of Ministry Minded, Gospel Sharing, Outdoor Enthusiasts.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Development Specialist

SUMMARY:
The Development Specialist of Walcamp Outdoor Ministries will be responsible to plan, coordinate, and execute an annual program of cultivation and solicitation of individuals, and congregations as first priority and the business community as a second priority. This includes direct mail, special events, and face to face moves management. This person will meet with current and prospective donors, volunteers, and execute “friend- raising” special events to introduce Walcamp to new friends and maintain positive relationships with old friends. The Development Specialist will partner with organizations to create and foster relationships and secure renewable financial or in-kind support. The Development Specialist will be familiar with Walcamp’s mission, practices, and procedures. The position will be executed with a prayerful Christian focus; always keeping God first.

SPECIALIZED RESPONSIBILITIES:

Regular duties include but are not limited to the following and are carried out in partnership with the Executive

Director:

Fund Raising/Donor Support/Marketing (75%) –

Establish and execute both long and short-range goals for unrestricted funding sources via a comprehensive, written fund development plan including strategies to achieve goals.
Research and apply to public and private grant sources (agencies, corporations, and foundations) to secure sources of temporarily restricted and unrestricted funding.
Organize individual donor campaigns (e.g. major donors, direct mail).
Organize solicitation drives for pledges of ongoing support from individuals and congregations.
Identify and solicit volunteers for the Fundraising Committee. The Development Specialist will be the Chairperson of the Fundraising Committee

Work closely with the Executive Director to recruit and train staff and volunteers to support fundraising efforts
Assist in the development and oversight of donor database including donor records, reports, prospecting, etc.
Assist in the development of the fundraising budget Major Gifts (25%)–

Cultivate donors by producing specialized correspondences, preparing letters of acknowledgment, and scheduling and attending in-person visits.
Communicate with donors after donations to maintain communications and encourage future gifts.
Produce support materials with the intent to retain or upgrade gifts when possible
Cultivate and solicit donors, and provide leadership to grow the “I Heart My Camp” recurring gift program.
Plan and execute a recognition dinner for donors/stakeholders
Consider and implement meaningful recognition of donors.

REQUIREMENTS:

The Development Specialist must:

Able to demonstrate Christian leadership
Have strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience.
Have a history of effective leadership in an outcome-based, non-profit organization.
Be a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.
Possess imagination, conviction, sincerity, enthusiasm, initiative, and a sense of spiritual direction in all duties performed.
Have previous experience achieving goals through volunteers
Demonstrate exceptional organizational and planning skills
Able to think creatively and apply planning to meet the needs of different audiences
Have effective written and verbal communication skills.
Have a valid driver’s license and vehicle.
Professional appearance

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
Computer proficiency including working knowledge of database and spreadsheet software programs
High-level interpersonal communication skills and a high degree of confidence making public presentations
Ability to work independently, but in a team-oriented atmosphere
Member in good standing of a Christian congregation.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: The Development Specialist reports directly to the Walcamp Outdoor Ministries Executive Director.

HOURS: Work hours range from 20-25 hours a week and reflect the ministry and operational needs of plans to this becoming a full-time position within 6 months.

Walcamp, including but not limited to nights, weekends, travel and on-call duties.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Competitive and commensurate with education, skills, and experience.

Orientation to Walcamp Outdoor Ministries and Retreat Center
Online Webinars through DCNP, Bloomerang and other sources.

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION:

Informal and undocumented performance review 30 days from date of hire
Formal evaluation 90 days from date of hire
Annual performance evaluation
