Scope and Impact:
The Executive Development Officer develops and manages a portfolio of major donors and models best practices in strategy, planning, execution, and stewardship of those relationships.

Principal Duties:
• Initiate contact with major donors and potential donors and cultivate long-term relationships with them on behalf of the organization.
• Develop, manage, and grow a portfolio of potential, current, and reactivated major donors.
• Research to obtain information concerning financial capability, special interests, past history and current connections with the organization, close friends and advisors, and financial contributions to other causes.
• Establish and implement plans to reach annual, comprehensive campaign, and planned giving revenue and cultivation objectives.
• Discuss and recommend major gifts, comprehensive campaign contributions, and planned giving ideas with technical accuracy to leadership.
• Develop and sustain an annual plan for the cultivation and solicitation of major gifts including an appropriate budget.
• Execute personal assignments with specific major gift prospects, including coordinating with other staff, missionaries, or volunteers when appropriate to build stronger relationships and buy-in with donors.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Preparation and Knowledge:
• Prefer candidate will be of a Lutheran background and possess intimate working knowledge of the Lutheran faith.
• Successful experience in making cold calls as well as developing relationships with different individuals.
• Frequent domestic travel is expected.
• Two to three years’ experience preferred in development, fundraising, or sales; preferably in a not-for-profit organization.
• Planned giving and comprehensive campaign experience, preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in non-profit management, fundraising, communications, marketing, or equivalent field of study.
