As CEO of the Lutheran Elementary School Association (“LESA”), you will lead a passionate organization towards its mission in providing financial resources for children in need to obtain Lutheran Christian education and educational resources to help sustain and support high-quality Lutheran Christian education. LESA is a consortium of 31 Lutheran elementary schools, three-member high schools, two affiliate agencies and Early Childhood Partner schools in the metropolitan St. Louis area who work collaboratively to support and enhance Lutheran education as they service children and their families. LESA prides itself on touching the lives of children and families through a high-quality, faith-based elementary school experience and is seeking a CEO who will make the next chapter of an organization’s vision come to life. Reporting to the Board of Directors, LESA’s CEO will serve as a key leader for a growing internal team and a base of passionate stakeholders motivated to achieve heightened awareness of LESA as a partner in St. Louis Lutheran education, ongoing programmatic excellence, and leading the organization in securing the financial ability and growth towards providing scholarships, training and new opportunities.


• PROVIDE FAITH BASED EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP [Executive Leadership & Board Relations] – Partner closely with the Board of Directors and serve as primary contact to further LESA’s vision and strategic plans. Engage the Board through transparent communications regarding financial and operational performance measures while providing inspiration and alignment for team members. Ensure excellent internal operations, develop a well-researched annual operating budget, maintain sound financial processes and procedures, partner with CPA firm on the annual organizational audit and maintain safe and secure physical and technological resources. As applicable, identify opportunities to enhance LESA’s physical and technological assets to better serve its mission.

• INSPIRE INTERNAL TALENT & FOSTER A COLLABORATIVE CULTURE [Team Leadership] – Serve as leader for three high-performing internal team members. Build, grow and develop internal talent. Create a collaborative culture that ensures challenge, accountability, and reward. Develop positive and accountable relationships with external partners who serve as an extension of the LESA team to ensure excellence in performance on all organizational initiatives.

• EXPAND ORGANIZATIONAL RESOURCES [Fundraising & Development] – Raise substantial resources to develop greater long-term sustainability of the organization and execute increasing annual goals. Drive donor identification and directly participate in cultivating donor relationships and soliciting and stewarding financial supporters. Oversee and support staff in developing both annual and long-term fund development strategies. Oversee the annual event strategy and all donor cultivation efforts.

• BE THE VOICE & FACE OF LESA [Marketing, Community Engagement & Public Relations] – Represent LESA as the well-respected partner in the St Louis Lutheran education ministry and of Lutheran schools as an educational option for families in the St. Louis area. Present LESA ministry/mission programs to prospective donors, congregations and organizations and develop new programmatic and partnership opportunities to advance LESA’s mission. Manage and elevate LESA’s brand in the community. Consistently and effectively represent LESA and its mission at events, on regional committees, and, in media.


• You are a member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod and have an unwavering commitment to Lutheran education and supporting efforts to improve the sustainability of quality Lutheran schools in the St. Louis area.

• You have gained 5-10+ years demonstrated leadership success and progressive experience, with operations and/or administration management, including past success working with a Board or serving on a Board. Prior experience in nonprofit or mission driven organizations is a plus yet not required.

• You have prior experience managing a high performing team. You are capable of creating a healthy team culture, emphasizing teamwork, collaboration, and accountability.

• You have strong relationship-building skills, an executive presence, an ability to serve as a credible resource within the organization, and a well-honed ability to collaborate and to influence internally, externally, and cross-functionally.

• Your experience includes a proven track record and or aptitude for identifying resources and developing funds. Familiarity with annual giving, endowments, and major gifts is important.

• You are willing to serve as a hands-on leader with the ability and desire to flex between strategic and tactical priorities required. Superior project management skills and a proactive mindset is required.

• You have developed a solid business acumen, including prior P&L responsibility and strong technology skills. Four-year college degree required. MBA or related graduate degree a plus.
