Position Overview-

The Executive Director will manage the administrative functions, campus facilities and support member programming of Ascension Lutheran Church and School (“Ascension”) under the direction of the Executive Committee and in consultation with the Senior Pastor of Ascension Lutheran Church and School.

The Executive Director will drive and facilitate the implementation of programs and initiatives that support the Vision and Mission of Ascension. The Executive Director will provide executive leadership to the non-ministry church staff and volunteers and functional guidance to the school (i.e., Early Childhood Education Center) as needed. Working with the Board of Directors and in consultation with the Senior Pastor, the Executive Director shall set annual and long-term goals aligning and developing non-ministry staff and volunteers towards reaching those goals.

Essential Qualifications for the Executive Director: Demonstrates emotional health and spiritual maturity in personal relationships, good judgment and personal integrity. Be a person of Christian character, committed to a manner of life consistent with the faith and practice of life in the Word. Be a team-oriented leader who is humble, teachable, approachable and committed to coaching and empowering others. Be a leader for staff and volunteers, coaching, motivating, and aligning the direction of the ministries of Ascension Lutheran Church and School to move hearts, make disciples, care deeply, and serve freely. Be a self-starter who can work in a small staff environment. Willing to take a hands-on approach, as needed.


Theology
Foundation in Lutheran theology and a member, or willing to consider becoming a member, of Ascension Lutheran Church.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Provide executive support for the Church allowing the Senior Pastor to focus on his calling without undo administrative, supervisory or management involvement.
2. Oversee the administrative processes and systems, which support the Church and School.
3. Establish and maintain a set of key performance indicators that provide the non-ministry church staff and leadership with ongoing visibility of the effectiveness of all functional areas, programs and initiatives of the church.
4. Oversee the development and maintenance of physical infrastructure of the campus. Lead facility development and improvement programs, planning and construction (when required).
5. Serve the Human Resources function, maintain and improve the human resources policies and procedures. Work with the Compensation Committee and Early Childhood Education Committee to develop annual staff salary adjustments for Ascension in accordance with policy guidelines. Conduct effective annual performance reviews for staff, establish clear expectations and ensure ongoing opportunities for clear feedback and development.
6. Ensure effective communication with leadership, non-ministry staff, volunteers, and members of the congregation and served community regarding Ascension initiatives, programs and activities. Work closely with non-ministry staff and volunteers to engage congregation members in activities that support Ascension’s Vision, Mission.
7. Work with staff and functional areas to develop the annual Work Plan & Budget. Serve on the Finance Committee and work in concert with the Committee as they review budget requests and monitor ongoing financial activities. Work with the Finance Committee as they cultivate overall church financial health and stewardship principles.
8. Actively participate in Board of Directors, Early Childhood Education Committee, Executive Committee, and other church meetings as required.
Education and Experience Requirements: •
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience •
Formal Christian education (e.g., Church Leadership Major, DCM/DCE/Family Life Ministry or Seminary) a plus •
Minimum of 5-years management experience in church or secular organization •
Experience in Office productivity software, social media •
Experience, organizing and leading staff and volunteers
Compensation and Benefits: •
Salary commensurate with experience
