| Position Overview - | Classification •Status: Full-time •Location: Remote •Type: Lay Worker or Ordained •Reports To: Director of Development •Department: Advancement Function •Cultivate and Steward High-Capacity Household Donors •Guide Donors through Responsive Fundraising •Build Meaningful Donor Relationships through Personal Engagement •Represent the Ministry through Speaking Engagements, Networking, and Fundraising Events •Advance Major Donor Giving through Strategic Cultivation, Solicitation, and Stewardship Position Summary The Development Officer builds and sustains meaningful relationships with individual households through personalized cultivation, stewardship, and engagement. This role plays a critical part in advancing the ministry’s fundraising efforts by guiding donors through responsive fundraising journeys. The Development Officer maintains a portfolio of high-capacity donors, conducts personal visits, delivers individualized gift proposals, and serves as an ambassador for the organization's mission. The ideal candidate is deeply aligned with our mission, communicates with warmth and clarity, and brings demonstrated experience in relational fundraising and donor care. Duties/Responsibilities •Manage a portfolio of high-capacity household donors •Respond to donor signals and engagement opportunities within established service-level expectations •Develop and execute donor moves management strategies and next-step actions for portfolio households •Deliver personalized, capacity-based solicitations and funding proposals •Receive and cultivate qualified donor referrals from mid-level giving •Gain a comprehensive understanding of the organization's mission, ministry programs, and global impact •Collaborate with Director of Development to establish and implement engagement strategies •Collaborate with Director of Outreach & Engagement in networking and fundraising events, including identifying potential invitees, speaking engagements, and follow-up efforts •Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward new and existing donors •Collaborate with the Responsive Engine domain to provide timely and personalized donor communications •Provide regular reports on donor engagement activity, fundraising progress, and portfolio performance •Maintain accurate records of all donor interactions (visits, calls, emails, proposals) in the CRM utilizing the Momentum software •Plan and organize personal domestic travel related to donor engagement and fundraising events •Participate in international field visit trips alongside donors as needed •Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications and Competencies •Preferred candidate will have a Lutheran background and strong knowledge of the faith •Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with donors and stakeholders •Ability to present information and stories compellingly, both verbally and in writing •Proficiency in donor management software and Microsoft Office Suite •Ability to work independently and as part of a team •Passion for the mission and values of the organization •High level of integrity and professionalism •Creative and strategic thinker with a proactive approach to problem-solving Education and Experience •Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Nonprofit Management, Business, or related field preferred •Knowledge of planned giving principles is beneficial •Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, advancement, development, or a related nonprofit role Physical Requirements •Ability to work effectively from a remote office environment •Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods of time •Ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and through electronic communication •Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 15 pounds •Evening and weekend hours are expected and frequent •Frequent domestic travel is required •Occasional international travel is required |
