Position Overview -

Position: Director of Youth Ministries

Accountable to: The Pastor and Elders of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, College Station,

TX.

Purpose: Holy Cross is looking for a Director of Youth Ministries who will serve Holy Cross

and the surrounding community by providing spiritual leadership, vision, and direction in the

church’s programs and education for youth 18 years of age and under. This person will do more

than just run a calendar of youth activities. We desire a ministry leader who builds relationships,

develops people, equips parents and volunteers, teaches the faith, reaches outward, and helps

young people become lifelong disciples of Jesus Christ through a ministry that is Christ-centered,

biblically grounded, distinctly Lutheran (LCMS), relationally strong and missionally focused.

Bryan/College Station (B/CS) is a vibrant and growing community. Our church and our youth

program are growing. We need someone passionate to join our team!

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Youth Ministry

● Plan, direct, lead and focus the programs of nurture, service, education and fellowship for

the total parish youth ministry.

● Assimilate youth into youth ministry and congregational life responsibilities.

● Encourage and promote spiritual renewal opportunities, including retreats, youth

gatherings, conferences, servant events, etc., as well as small-group Bible studies.

● Provide for the continuing spiritual growth of the youth of the congregation through

Bible study, prayer and Christian service.

● Identify, recruit, train and engage lay adult volunteers to assist in youth programs.

● Build relationships with youth by being a positive role model with a loving and

welcoming demeanor.

● Show interest and support youth in non-church activities.

● Provide leadership and participate in fundraising to support youth programs.

● Promote attendance for all youth activities.

● Encourage youth to be active participants in the entire life of the congregation rather than

creating a youth ministry that is isolated from the larger church.

● Create an environment where youth are known personally, cared for spiritually,

challenged to grow, and encouraged to use their gifts in service to Christ and others.

● Develop opportunities for youth leadership and increasing responsibility as students

mature.

● Equip youth to speak freely and naturally about their Christian faith and to care for and

encourage one another.

● Recognize parents as the primary faith-forming influence in the lives of their children and

intentionally partner with them.

Youth Education

● Lead Sunday Bible class and Wednesday night youth for middle and high school youth.

● Assist and serve the Board of Education to plan and direct programs of Christian

education.

● Serve as the coordinator of Vacation Bible School.

● Help the Pastor plan and teach confirmation.

● Help with care and counseling of youth.

Outreach and Mission

● Develop a youth ministry culture that looks beyond the walls of Holy Cross and actively

engages the surrounding community.

● Build relationships with local schools, community organizations, and other appropriate

ministry partners.

● Look for creative ways to connect with youth and families who currently have little or no

connection to a Christian congregation.

● Help youth understand that Christian service and witness are part of everyday

discipleship.

● Develop future ministry leaders by intentionally giving capable adults and youth

opportunities to lead.

Administrative Responsibilities

● Maintain the annual youth ministry calendar and responsibly manage resources and

maintain an approved budget in accordance with church policies.

● Meet with the Holy Cross Youth Board on a regularly scheduled basis to plan youth

activities, lessons, and events.

● Communicate regularly and effectively with youth, parents, volunteers, church

leadership, and congregation regarding programs, opportunities, and ministry goals.

● Maintain regular and effective communication with parents regarding ministry schedules,

expectations, and the spiritual development of their youth.

● Encourage parent involvement by developing planning committees to help plan, promote

and execute youth events.

● Provide volunteers with clear expectations, appropriate resources, theological guidance,

and ongoing encouragement.

● Ensure that appropriate child and youth safety policies are understood and followed by

volunteers and participants.
